This essay analyzes Jorge Luis Borges’ short story The Garden of Forking Paths through an examination of its narrative structure and principal thematic elements. It explores the shifts in narration, the labyrinthine construction of the plot, the nonlinear conception of time, and intertextuality as defining features of Borges’ literary poetics. Furthermore, it argues that the story offers a profound reflection on multiple possible realities, free will, and the role of literature as a means of exploring the complexity of human existence.
